Abstract :
A multiterminal DC transmission scheme using gate turn-off device based inverters is proposed. The scheme utilizes single wire DC transmission and is intended for supplying power to generationless loads in remote locations. A suitable inverter topology is identified and its performance is investigated. Control and protection methods for the scheme are developed for system start-up, AC and DC faults, load voltage regulation and loss of load. The system performance is evaluated using a digital electromagnetic transient analysis program and is found to be satisfactory
