Abstract
This paper aims to show the usefulness of symbolic classification in fields where one should discriminate between similar alternatives in order to take action. In these instances, one benefits from classifying the alternatives according to the similarities which they share. For this purpose a symbolic classification can be used. Moreover when the objects to be classified are complex, a technique applicable to graph structures should be used. This has been done in three distinct fields of application, namely information retrieval, software reuse and domain analysis
