Abstract
The paper presents the design details, architecture and applications of 32-bit real numeric processor based on IEEE-754 data format. Paper describes about the architecture, programming methodology, synthesis results and analysis of the design. It has the capability to solve real arithmetic operations for addition, multiplication, division and subtraction operators without writing complex codes. It has the capability to perform programming for other instruction sets, applicable to general purpose processors. It uses load and store instructions for the data transfer between memories to arithmetic logic unit. Programming examples were presented in the paper to prove functionalities including design realization for DCT and IDCT submodules. The coding is carried out in VHDL and functionality is verified through simulation and writing test benches at different stages including behavioral and RTL codes in Modelsim. The synthesis is carried out using Leonardo Spectrum by Mentor Graphics (MG) and its implementation on PROM device using Xilinx ISE and VIRTEX-II Pro Development Board.
