Abstract :
This paper presents the development and first operation of a 95 GHz Doppler polarimetric cloud radar. The radar provides high-resolution, real-time measurements of reflectivity, linear depolarisation ratio, Doppler spectrum, radial velocity mean, and velocity variance of clouds and precipitation. Compared to similar existing radars, the discussed one takes advantages from several innovative key components. In particular, the radar essentially benefits from the application of the spatial-harmonic magnetron with cold secondary-emission cathode as the transmitter oscillator.
