  • Abstract
A scenario socket architecture model (SSAM) for ATM switch software is proposed. Its goal is to provide a distributed processing environment that enhances software extensibility and maintainability. Especially, it gives a good reusability of software and provides a way that cultivates system engineers naturally. The SSAM and its target application are based on a distributed concurrent processing model with its state transition diagram. We adapt a scenario socket model for inter- and intra-scenario processing. We design the SSAM structure and defined the scenario, protocol based software model with B-ISDN UNI protocol, and the implementation with the structure for the ATM switch. The structure can be adapted to implement the B-ISDN NNI (B-ISUP) protocol. For high adaptability, the SSAM supports a table driven mechanism for state transition and uses a register reference model. We implement the SSAM as call/connection software of a small scale ATM switch
