Abstract
The project investigates the effectiveness of OFDM as a modulation technique for wireless radio applications. Several main factors affecting the performance of a OFDM System will be measured, including multi path delay spread, channel noise, distortion (clipping) and timing requirements. The performance of OFDM will be simulated by Matlab Package. Most third generation mobile phone systems are proposing to use code division multiple access (CDMA) as their modulation technique. For this reason, CDMA was investigated so that the performance of CDMA could be compared with OFDM. As it is well known that OFDM performs extremely well compared with CDMA., this project explains that OFDM provides a very high tolerance to multi path delay spread, peak power clipping and channel noise. In addition to this it provides a high spectral efficiency.
