  • Abstract
    A high-resolution water display system(WDS) has been developed, which provides a new viewing modality for text/graphic information, unlike traditional display screens which use the brightness/color of built-in array of pixels on a flat panel to display information contents. The WDS has no fixed display screen which uses an array of water nozzles to precisely control the timing of water drops so that the pattern of water drops form a dynamic display screen to show text/graphic information. We have demonstrated the feasibility of our system design by controlling precisely hundreds (sometimes thousands) of water nozzles. Meanwhile, to achieve consistency and high-resolution of information display, a smart digital controller based on RS-422 bus is proposed. And then associated control protocol, hardware/software design, and implementation of the controller are introduced. It shows that the system possesses the capacity to display complicate text/graphic information with clear profile in real space on the base of comparison of experiment results, and the scheme is of favorable feasibility.
