Abstract :
The thermopower in AlPdMn quasicrystalline systems is explored. Thermopower in metals, semiconductors and metallic glasses are compared in relation to icosahedral AlPdMn quasicrystals. Due to atypical symmetry, transport in quasicrystalline materials is difficult to understand. Utilizing three free variables we propose an empirical fit to the temperature dependence of the experimental thermopower data. The physical significance of the fit parameters is discussed. These results are discussed in brief concerning the relation to the application of quasicrystals for use as thermoelectric materials
