Abstract :
This paper presents a study upon a new configuration of an outer rotor induction motor with multipole stator winding. The new design comes out as a result of a reconfiguration process of a real model by means of FEM-based analysis. The main transformation consists in replacement of the regular drum winding with a toroidal one, which allows a high flexibility in changing the number of pole pairs. The purpose is mainly to create the possibility of obtaining a superior torque capability by changing the synchronous speed. The primary study started with the laboratory experimental tests of the basic model followed by a simulation based on finite element method. Further, the drum winding has been replaced with a toroidal (ring) one designed for p = 1, p = 2 and p = 4. In this structure, new simulations have been run in order to make a proper comparison to the real model. The analysis tool used both magneto-dynamic and transient simulations.
