Abstract :
Insulator ribs exert an important and complex influence on the scintillation pattern and final flashover under polluted conditions. In this work a new model, named Rib-effect Simulation (RS) model, is developed to account for the rib effects. Laboratory tests for initial potential distribution pattern and dryband formation are conducted on an actual insulator and its model. The influence of location of drybands, the presence of a wet patch in a dry zone, the effects of the components of pin and ribs on the scintillation pattern is also studied and reported
