Abstract :
In this paper the concept of rate variable multidimensional DS/SS communication systems is proposed. First, a multidimensional DS/SS communication system is introduced. Then a simple method to get rate variability is presented, indicating that it is important to find a set of optimized “medium codes” and a set of optimized mappings according to the information symbols with various lengths under given conditions, where the medium codes and the mappings have great impact on the system performance. Finally, as an example a set of good mappings and numerical results are provided based on a practical efficient DS/SS scheme
