Abstract
The paper presents a parallel concatenated trellis coded modulation (PCTCM) scheme for ADSL applications. Automatic repeat request (ARQ) is used to remove the inherent error floor of PCTCM. This makes the system robust against impulse noise even if the delay is significantly lowered with respect to the current ADSL FEC scheme. A reduced-search algorithm is exploited to lower the computational complexity. This hybrid PCTCM-ARQ unites high coding gain with low delay, robustness against impulse noise and a complexity comparable to that of ADSL
