Abstract :
With PP and PE film as samples, the chemical groups, free radicals, micro pores and trap densities during the electrical ageing process in vacuum, air, and corona are measured in this paper. It is shown in test results that the variation of characteristic peaks of groups in the IR spectrum, and free radicals are similar to that of trap densities. It is suggested that trap densities can be used an an indication of electrical ageing degree in polymers. Finally, the mechanism of trap creation and ageing breakdown in polymers is discussed
