Abstract :
In GPSR, forwarding node uses greedy forwarding strategy (GFS) to select next hop locally among the one-hop neighbors, which is geographically closest to the destination. But in mobile scenery, GFS causes temporary communication blindness (TCB) problem because of periodic beacon exchange regardless of network mobility. To address the problem, we make an improvement using buffer zone based greedy forwarding strategy (BZGFS). It added buffer zone into GPSR to eliminates unreliable nodes, and compare it with original GPSR in the ns-2 simulation platform. The results confirm that BZGFS significantly mitigates TCB problem and acquires high packet success delivery ratio without introducing into more beacon overhead. However average route length and average end-to-end delay of packet delivery are increased, but it is compensated by high packet success delivery ratio. Therefore BZGFS is suitable to application for mobile ad hoc networks that require high reliability and are not sensitive to end-to-end delay.
