Abstract
Proposes two methods for reconstructing sensor faults using sliding mode observers. In both methods, fictitious systems are introduced in which the original sensor fault appears as an actuator fault. The original sensor faults are then reconstructed using a ´secondary´ sliding mode observer. For both methods, there are conditions which must be satisfied for successful fault reconstruction. The methods are demonstrated with a chemical process example
