Abstract :
A compact array of monopoles with a slotted ground plane is analyzed for being used in 2 × 2 MIMO systems. Compact arrays usually suffer from high coupling which degrades significantly MIMO benefits [3]. Through a matching network, main drawbacks can be mitigated, although it tends to provide a low bandwidth. The studied design is an array of two λ0/4 monopoles, separated by a distance of 0.1 λ0 and a slot in the ground plane. The slot shape is optimized with a Genetic Algorithm (GA) and an own simulation tool based on Method of Moments (MoM) in order to fulfill main figures of merit within a significant bandwidth.
