Abstract
Programmable logic controllers (PLC) have been used to control various industrial processes due to their simplicity of programming. The control algorithms normally used in those PLC are simple but yet effective ones such as those of the PID or compensator types. While such algorithms perform fairly well in limited ranges of operating conditions, their performance can deteriorate a great deal under wide ranges. In such cases, the PLC can be enhanced by adaptive self-tuning regulators. This paper presents a technique for incorporating a self-tuning regulator algorithm into existing industrial PLCs
