Abstract :
The described multi-sensor system was developed for application in active defense (AD) systems. These systems represent a new method of protecting military vehicles against anti-armor threat missiles. The multi-sensor system is able to detect approaching missile, determine its the most probable position with respect to the protected vehicle, and generate impulses for activating suitable counter-measure. Since detection and localization must be performed in a close vicinity of the vehicle, CW radar sensors with zero blind-zone and frequencies of output signals equal to Doppler frequency shifts are employed. For determining the horizontal position, the system measures and processes signals from a set of radar sensors and compares their Doppler frequencies. The entire setup was practically tested at an army shooting range, the achieved results are promising.
