Technical rationale behind the proposed ANSI electrostatic discharge standard

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is creating an ESD standard which provides guidance on electrostatic discharge testing procedures for electronic equipment using air discharge and contact discharge methodologies. The ANSI document contains material that has been ignored by other ESD standards and the authors who are ANSI committee members describe the issues which they feel should be covered by an ESD standard. Establishing ESD test criteria, evaluation of test results and furniture discharge simulation are described supported by experimental work
