Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the effect of the carrier frequency offset and phase noise on the performance of wavelet based filtered multi-tone (WFMT) systems for a general AWGN channel. It is well known that the carrier frequency offset in OFDM system yields to significant degradation of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Below I show that a novel WFMT modulation is less sensitive to the frequency offset and phase noise in communication channel than OFDM /DMT modulation. The simple expression for SNR degradation in WFMT Systems is developed based on previous papers that examine the carrier frequency offset effect on the OFDM performance. The better performance of WFMT system versus OFDM is illustrated by the calculation of SNR degradation in OFDM and WFMT systems with the same bandwidth and number of FFT points
