Abstract
There are three main elements of regional innovation ability proposed in this paper, which include patent and its degree of market, import, and export, FDI inflows. Based on this, we researched relation between sub-provincial innovation ability and economic growth taking those of 1999 as a base point. As a result, we found that sub-provincial innovation ability could interpret growth of past 5 year as weighed by import and export, patent and its degree of market, and FDI inflows. Import and export are still engines of China´s economic growth as prior, while FDI plays an important role in it. A change is that patent and its market become more important for economic growth.
