Abstract
A new down-conversion technique for wireless terminals is proposed. The use of two IF stages at low frequencies eliminates the need for expensive SAW filters while avoiding some of the shortcomings of the direct conversion and single low-IF methods. High selectivity is realized with on-chip filters and inexpensive ceramic filters. A 0.5 μm BiCMOS test chip demonstrates the principle via a GSM example
