Abstract
Organic-inorganic hybrid materials based on a polysiloxane matrix are a new branch of materials science accessible by a combination of sol-gel processing and organic synthesis. These materials are already proving themselves superior to organic polymers for many applications. Their matched optical properties to silica itself and their flexibility of molecular design demands their serious consideration for photonic applications
