Abstract
In this work gyrator layers are investigated which are a field theoretical analogue to Tellegen´s gyrator circuit in network theory. A gyrator is an electric circuit that inverts an impedance. It has gained interesting applications in circuit theory, especially in active filter design. We consider gyrator surfaces that constitute a relationship between mutually orthogonal electric and magnetic field components which are tangential to the surface. It is shown that such gyrator layers can invert the field impedance under conservation of the modal field distribution. The possible future realization of gyrator surfaces is discussed.
