Classification of Rock Mass in West Route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project Based on Penetrating Rate of TBM

Abstract :
In order to study the geological factors which impact penetrating rate of TBM, three-dimensional discrete element model 3DEC was used to build simulated models on rock fragment by TBM cutter. The influence of different geological conditions on TBM penetrating rate was analyzed. The surrounding rock in west route of South-to-North Transfer Project was classified according to the drill ability of TBM in surrounding rock. The results show that the penetrating rate of TBM is closely related to the mechanical properties of rock and joint conditions in rock mass. The another result is that the surrounding rock in west route of South-to-North Transfer Project can be divided into 3 classes base on the drill ability of TBM in surrounding rock. A guiding effect was act on the penetrating of TBM in west route of South-to-North Transfer Project.
