Abstract
In this paper, we first look at various definitions of a digital city, influences on its development, and then compare two experiences of digital cities, in Bologna and in Nassau, within their contexts. A digital city could be described as a virtual environment that allows its citizens to access information and participate online in the life of their city and government. However, existing social norms influence the implementation of digital city technology and limits the role of various groups, such as the role that business is allowed to play within such a city. However, the notion of a digital city includes some form of e-government which allows citizens to access government information and services online.
