Abstract :
The issue of UMTS WCDMA radio network planning is studied in this paper. The impact that smart antennas can have on essential WCDMA network parameters is demonstrated with the help of a radio network planning tool, by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The scope of this paper is to demonstrate with simulations from a typical urban operational scenario how advanced techniques like smart antennas can provide multiple operational advantages and why careful planning is so important.
