Abstract :
Strategic innovation is the combination of innovation and corporate-level strategy and the important source of sustainable advantage under environmental uncertainty, but it is at its elementary stage of research. This paper systematically explores the antecedents, processes and consequences of strategic innovation. External environment uncertainty, internal organization characteristics and top management teams are identified as the main driving forces, and they are interactive with each other. From the perspectives of organizational cognition and change, several process modes are summarized, which generally include strategic innovation thinking, strategic innovation formation, strategic innovation implementation and strategic innovation monitoring. Strategic innovation is mainly in pursuit of future and sustainable advantage, and can provide potential competitive position for firms and dynamic value for customers. Subsequently, all of them are integrated into an analytic framework to systematically understand strategic innovation and provide concrete suggestions for practice. Finally, the future research directions of this paper are pointed out.
