Abstract
This paper focuses on the electromagnetic design and experimental evaluation of a (insert) permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) for hybrid commercial heavy vehicle applications. The machine specifications are based on drive cycle simulations with a set of target vehicles and drive cycles. The goals for the machine design are to fulfil the specification including a wide constant power range and an overload capability, all to be realized in the strictly limited space in the vehicle. The torque speed characteristics are shown for the designed machine including the temperature dependence, winding arrangement, etc. The prototype is built and experimentally verified. The comparison shows that the design considerations in the modelling match the measured results.
