Abstract
Recent experimental and theoretical values of the refractive and dielectric properties of a macroscopic gas of helium and corresponding microscopic parameters such as the atomic (or molecular) polarisability lead to more accurate gas density determination as exemplified by an estimate of the Boltzmann constant.<>
