Abstract :
The advances taking place in Information and Communication Technologies promise educators, administrators and learners to transform the education and training to be defined in ways previously unimaginable. Some of the notable innovations in this line are simulations, visualizations, intelligent tutors, distributed learning etc. Web Based Learning (WBL), one such new technological advancement applied to teaching and learning process, provides convenience and flexibility in the educational process comprising of various tools and techniques. Various models of WBL are practiced by universities and organizations with innovative technologies. Especially, the pervasive computing, the next generation computing, approach to WBL can provide enormous flexibilities to the educational system. Pervasive computing provides anywhere, anytime, any format for the dissemination and the management of information. In this paper, we focus on the significance of Pervasive Computing for web based engineering education for learning both theory and laboratory subjects and also discuss suitable assessment techniques associated with the system.
