  • Abstract
This paper investigates the effect of the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) on small signal power system stability in a single-machine infinite-system (SMIB). Non-linear and linear models of a single machine have been derived. The STATCOM is modeled as the voltage source converter behind a step down transformer by a first order differential equation. Finally, the role STATCOM played in enlarging transmission capacity and improving transient stability is showed by simulation results and parameters variation on system response are discussed.
