Abstract :
A course in the design of microprocessor-based systems, currently under development in the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) at the FAMU/FSU College of Engineering (a joint program of the Florida A&M University and the Florida State University), is described. The first phase of the implementation was in place unit early 1988 and consisted of a single senior-level microprocessor course offered as an EE technical elective entitled `Special Topics: Microprocessor Applications´. The second phase began in early 1988 with a single senior-level microprocessor course offered as a required course for all EE majors, entitled `Microprocessor-Based System Design´. The third phase, which is currently under way, consists of a two-course sequence. The first is the same senior-level course introduced in phase 2. The second, however, is a new senior-level course entitled `Embedded Microprocessor Design Project´
