  • Abstract
This paper includes the design of microgrid with an approach of the development of the directional and differential protection of the microgrid. Differential protection is implemented for the protection of transformer in the microgrid model while Directional Protection scheme is implemented to island the microgrid from the main grid side faults. Magnetizing inrush in transformers, transients and disturbances of the main utility grid are bypassed and applied Differential and Directional protection is operated for only genuine faults in Off Grid as well as On Grid mode of operation of the microgrid. On the failure of the primary protection the back-up directional relays are also provided to system. The system modelling is carried out with MATLAB SIMULINK.
