Abstract :
A detailed model for a vertically gain-clamped semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) working at high bit rate is presented. The model combines distributed rate equations for carrier density with travelling-wave equations for in-plane signal intensity or field, and rate equations for multiple lateral modes of the vertical laser.
