  • Abstract
    Due to the requirement of the inverse planning process, TPS(treatment planning system) of IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) needs accurate dose calculation method with high speed. A superposition /convolution algorithm for photon beams is presented in this paper based on Monte Carlo calculation. The dose distribution can be calculated by the convolution of energy fluence and pencil beam kernel obtained from Monte Carlo codes dosxyznrc/beamnrc/egsnrc. The dose calculation result of test examples on water phantom are compared with the result of Monte Carlo simulation. The results demonstrate the C/S algorithm based on Monte Carlo calculation has fast speed and high precision, which can be used as a kind of reliable fast dose calculation tool in the TPS of IMRT.
