Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this strategy and several tools for designing, implementing and evaluating optimum lossless data compression systems for satellite payloads. The resulting compression systems typically offer high compression ratios at a low processing cost, while guaranteeing a reliable downlink. This strategy simplifies the final design and leads to the best compromise between high compression ratios, simplicity, and robustness. The strategy is based on a two-stage compressor, namely, an adequate preprocessing stage followed by an entropy coder. The pre-processing stage is composed of data predictors which produce errors that are subsequently compressed with the entropy coder.
