Abstract :
The genetic algorithm (GA) is emerging as a powerful optimization tool and has recently been applied in a few fields. This paper illustrates the use of GA for the design of controller parameters of a separately excited DC motor drive. The design criterion is modified as an optimization problem and the general rules of GA are applied. In the proposed GA, a novel selection procedure is adopted by combining roulette wheel selection with elitism, resulting in faster convergence to the optimal solution. Simulation of the DC drive is carried with optimized values of controller parameters and the dynamic response of the drive confirms the validity of the new disposition.
