Abstract :
The paper presents a novel scheme for damp1ng subsynchronous oscillations due to torsio?? nal interactions in power systems. The new concept utilizes thyristor valves to regulate the phase angle of generator voltage in order to produce the necessary damping torque. Requirements of the cont?? rol strategy are stablished and the performance of the device is analysed. Digital time simulations for the IEEE SSR benchmark system are performed to highlight the viability of the new technique.
