From intelligent doorknobs to access rights to a per-view payment operation, biometrics may be the solution to authentication in the home. How far we are from these scenarios in the world of network. appliances? Are biometrics standards in place that would allow for easy biometric data interchange among devices and for interoperability of biometric-based network appliances from different providers? These topics, utilization scenarios in the home and an introduction to the state-of-the art will be discussed
