Abstract :
Angular characteristics of 60 GHz radio channels are crucial in designing antenna arrays with beam steering capability. With the goal of analyzing angular characteristics of 60 GHz radio channels in a hospital room, radio scatterer localization was performed using a bistatic radar principle for measured radio channels at 60 GHz in a real hospital room. The localization method constructs a likelihood map of scatterers using a distributed antenna array, under the presence of antenna location measurement errors. Validity of the scatterer localization method was first confirmed in a computer simulation by synthetic channels with known locations of radio scatterers, and then the method was applied to measured radio channels from an angiography room in the hospital. The likelihood map of the angiography room provides insights on propagation mechanisms of the radio environment such as specular reflections from walls, but a dynamic range of the map has to be limited in order to avoid detecting possible artifacts as actual scatterers.
