Abstract :
A new era of power quality solutions has been ushered in with the installation of the first series compensation device (SCD) mounted on a platform for overhead distribution system application to serve mid-size industrial and commercial loads. The Dynamic Voltage RestorerTM Platform Mounted (DVRTM PM) prototype was installed on a major North American utility system to protect a 600 kVA load from disturbances coming from the utility 25 kV distribution system. Northern Lights Community College in Dawson Creek, BC is being protected by the DVRTM PM, built by Siemens for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). This paper describes the DVRTM PM and the demonstration project installation, commissioning and initial operation
