Abstract :
Mesoscale gas turbine generator systems are a promising solution for high energy and power density portable devices. This paper focuses on the design of a 100 W, 500000 rpm generator suitable for use with a gas turbine. The design procedure selects the suitable machine type and bearing technology, and determines the electromagnetic characteristics. The losses caused by the high frequency operation are minimized by optimizing the winding and the stator core material. The final design is a permanent-magnet machine with a volume of 3.5 cm3 and experimental measurements from a test bench are presented.
