Abstract
This paper presents an approach to compare the MIMO performance of arbitrary antenna arrays in realistic propagation scenarios without the need of multiple measurement campaigns. High resolution parameter estimation is used to obtain antenna independent characterizations of the mobile radio channel. Subsequently the estimation results are used to embed the influence of application antennas into the radio channel. A novel approach of modeling and estimating the spatial properties of diffuse scattering is presented and validated. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated using MIMO channel sounder measurements and an experimental 4-port application antenna.
