  • Abstract
    A number of reliability-based design methods for transmission structures have been proposed in recent years both in the US and abroad. Two of these proposals have gained wide attention: the ASCE guide and the IEC document, both of which are now available for trial use. Approximate relationships are given between the reliabilities of the line, of individual supporting structures within the line, and of components within a supporting structure. As illustrated through numerical examples, these relationships supplement the ASCE guide and allow system-reliability-based design (SRBD) of a transmission line
