Abstract
The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and optical transmission technologies are well deployed for commercial applications. Also, the progress of optical transport networks with transmission rates of several gigabit per second is stimulating the development of new high-speed communication protocols. We present an approach for interconnecting high-speed functional modules in the broadband centralized access node system. It is based on a simple shared-medium method with statistical multiplexing and a gigabit transparent asynchronous transmitter/receiver interface (G-TAXI) scheme as a transfer mode. With this approach, we design the broadband centralized access node system with a distributed configuration by using the inter-module communication block which connects two adjacent nodes with a rate of 1.25 gigabit/second providing fast ring-fault management functions
