Investigation on the treatment of generating unit outages in probabilistic production simulation

The authors report the results of an investigation on several treatments of generating unit random outages in probabilistic production simulation. An electric utility system with a mix of nuclear, coal, and gas-fired generating units and a peak load of about 5000 MW was used in the investigation. The authors also describe the treatment of the unit random outages, the utility system, simulation results and conclusions
