Abstract
This paper deals with the influence of the transversal geometry of the squirrel-cage rotor bars on the starting and breakdown torques and on the rated values of energetic efficiency parameters of high power induction motors. Three configurations with the same cross-section area of the rotor bars are considered and parameterized finite element analyses are performed for each configuration. This study proves that an important increase of the starting torque and higher motor efficiency can be obtained using an appropriate cross-section shape of the copper made squirrel-cage rotor bars, without a significant change of the breakdown torque
