Abstract :
In order to design a fractional slot winding for a permanent magnet drive as part of an implantable ventricular assist device,, various concepts for fractional winding layouts are presented and compared. Winding layouts for several pole/slot combinations are developed. Some of the layouts are put into further investigation by calculating the winding factors for both fundamental wave and harmonic content. In addition the magnetomotive force is analyzed. Finally a 2D FEM model is developed using a linear motion solver. The electromotive force is computed by a time stepping model. The torque ripple and the cogging torque are computed in further simulations. The results are collected and the various layout methods are evaluated
