Abstract :
An IN contains considerable information, much of which may be updated through both the management facilities and the services provided. The author examines the different classifications of IN databases and the implications that these have for the update transactions and the integrity of the databases, considering both management and service originated updates. Alternative methods of satisfying the services´ needs for data, as opposed to distributing huge quantities of updates around the IN, are also considered. A number of recommendations are made as to the strategies and practices thought desirable
